With a winter carte du jour celebrating input from the entire crew, and a new weekend brunch, The Social Bar and Grill at Thea’s Landing on the Foss Waterway has revamped more than just its menu.

For employees — to now owners — timing was everything for partners Jullian Merritt and David Pates, who bought the existing restaurant last summer.

With a new color scheme, fresh lunch and dinner menus that are allergy-sensitive, and a weekend brunch boasting menu items such as three-berry cheesecake and fried chicken stuffed waffles (made with their custom stuffed waffle irons), the duo has really set out to show Tacoma some love.

“One of our things is people over profit,” Merritt said. “You know, we’re all trying to survive, and make the American dream happen, but our prerogative isn’t to prioritize our profits over the people around us. We’re trying to build up Tacoma.”
