The second annual Grit City To Go Fundraiser launches round two of its three-date series on Aug. 14.
This time around participants will enjoy a freshly prepared multicourse meal by Chef Derek from The Table using many locally sourced ingredients shopped directly from the Broadway Market.
Grit City To Go, formerly known as the Grit City Gala, a large-scale outdoor event located on Broadway after-market hours, is a mission that continues to support Tacoma Farmers Market initiatives, services, and operations.
“The money we raise goes toward things like cooking demonstrations at the markets, our food access programs like the Fresh Express Mobile Market, and keeping our market fees affordable for local farms and small businesses,” says Anika Moran, executive director of Tacoma Farmers Market.
The first date, held in June, featured an amazing meal provided by Jan Parker Cookery. One more date remains in October, with a menu created by Tacoma Pie.
“As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on community support to create our vibrant marketplaces, and this is one way community members can contribute to a thriving local food system while enjoying a fantastic market-based meal made by skilled chefs,” says Moran.
