Petpalooza’s Dog Trot 2021 Registration Open

Auburn’s Dog Trot is a pet/owner 3K/5K fun run event that typically kicks off the Petpalooza festival held in May. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the Dog Trot event is being planned to take place virtually for May 22. The bonus of being virtual is you can participate whenever it’s convenient for you on or around May 22. Choose your route, date, and time.

The Makery Pivots to Monthly Subscriptions

The owners of The Makery in Tacoma had to close the doors of its hands-on sign- and craft-making studio due to COVID-19. But instead of closing for good, it has now turned into a monthly subscription service. These ‘take and make’ boxes come with three different-tiered options to choose from based on the number of projects included in each craft box experience.

Puyallup Veteran Awarded $25,000 from Lowe’s & AMVETS

Jurea Rubit, a local veteran and small business owner, will be presented with a $25,000 check from Lowe’s and AMVETS as a veteranpreneur grant winner this Saturday. Rubit is an Air Force veteran and the founder of All New LLC, a minority-woman, veteran-owned small business performing commercial and home renovations, additions, repairs, and more. The award is part of an ongoing series of grants and scholarships offered to veterans, spouses, and active-duty service members in tech and the skilled trades industry.

Pierce County Library Celebrates 25 Years of Teen’s Art and Writing Contest

The Pierce County Library System is celebrating 25 years of teen creativity with the Our Own Expressions Teen Writing & Art Contest, which runs now through Sunday, Feb. 28. Tacoma resident Bethany Maines was a teen in 1997 when she entered the inaugural contest. Maines placed third in the short story category and grew up to become a published author, illustrator, and graphic designer. Learn more about the contest
