Jazzin’ it up

Basketball Swoops into Tacoma

One of Tacoma’s best kept secrets is the source of some of the most fluid jazz this side of The Big Easy. But the improvisation needed for this Jazz lies in crisp passes and well-honed jump shots, and it ain’t music – this is basketball. The Rainiers aren’t the only professional sports team found between Seattle and Portland. The Jazz are a part of the International Basketball League and provide professional talent to the community at an affordable price.

“My home is here, my family is here, and now we need to get more people here,” said two-time IBL All-Star and Mt. Tahoma graduate Dontay Harris. He averaged 21.2 points per game last year and is the team’s leader. “We’re real personable. We stay and hang out with the kids after games. We’re trying to get in the community, get support and create an incredible environment.”
