Winners Gymnasium at Tacoma Christian Center

People looking to improve their health and the health of family members can take a huge step for wellness on February 6th by visiting SoundHearts 2010 at Tacoma Christian Center in Winners Gymnasium, 10am-3pm. Many health concerns can be avoided by taking care of the heart through healthier choices in exercise, nutrition and lifestyle. At this community health and wellness event, attendees will experience a lively heart health discussion with medical professionals and benefit from free screenings that include children’s dental screenings & cleaning, Chlamydia/Gonorrhea screening, blood pressure & glucose checks as well as weight & waist measurement. In recognition of National Black HIV Testing Day, the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department will provide free HIV testing with on-site results. Many health educators will share information on disease prevention, stroke, diabetes control, prostate cancer, respiratory disease and more with a special emphasis on the high risk in multicultural communities. This event is designed to be family fun and informative with the first gift drawing at 10:30am. A personal trainer will lead mini fitness sessions and tours of Winners Gymnasium. Information for establishing a safe and healthy home will be provided and a local chef’s heart healthy food tips. The event will wrap up with steps to C.H.A.N.G.E. and a panel discussion with the health educators to further answer questions.
